What Is the Recovery Time for LASIK?
LASIK eye surgery is a highly efficient procedure. In fact, most patients are able to drive and return to work the day after their surgery.
To facilitate the recovery process, it’s important to use the eyedrops provided by your Swagel Wootton Eye Institute surgeon. These drops will keep your eyes lubricated after surgery and help your eyes heal according to schedule. In addition to dry eyes, many patients experience minor blurriness and fluctuations in vision after LASIK — this is normal and will fade over time.
The day after your LASIK procedure, your Swagel Wootton Eye Institute surgeon will call to see how you’re doing and answer any questions you may have. The surgeon will continue to check in with you during pre-scheduled visits for the first year after your surgery. During these visits, they will evaluate your recovery process to ensure it’s proceeding on track. The cost of these appointments is bundled into the total cost of your LASIK procedure, so no additional fees will apply.
If your vision hasn’t improved as anticipated within three to six months of your procedure, your doctor may recommend an enhancement surgery to further sharpen your vision. In the rare cases in which this is necessary, the additional procedure will be provided free of charge. If you have any further questions on this matter, please do not hesitate to discuss them with a Swagel Wootton Eye Institute specialist during your free consultation.
Protecting Your Eyes After LASIK
There are several precautionary measures you should take to protect your eyes during the LASIK recovery process. These include:
- Wearing protective goggles for one week following your surgery to prevent day-to-day dust, debris, and smoke from entering your eyes.
- Refraining from applying eye makeup or eye cream for a minimum of one week.
- Limiting athletic activities for the first few days after surgery, and avoiding more strenuous contact sports for up to one month.
- Avoiding hot tubs or swimming pools for the first week after LASIK.
Taking these steps will help protect your eyes and facilitate a speedy recovery.
