What to Expect After LASIK

Helping your eyes heal from LASIK

Your eyes will experience light sensitivity and other temporary side effects in the days and even weeks following LASIK eye surgery. There are certain precautions you should take to protect your eyes and avoid infection during the recovery process, including:

  • Avoid rubbing or bumping your eyes after surgery as it can dislodge the corneal flap or lead to infection
  • Wear sunglasses or protective goggles to stop debris, dust, smoke and excessive light from hitting your eyes
  • Do not apply eye cream or eye makeup for at least a week following vision correction surgery. Additionally, keep cleansers, shampoos, and other chemicals out of the eyes during showers.
  • Limit all exercise and non-contact sports for a week after your surgery, and refrain from all intense contact sports for a full month.
  • Steer clear of hot tubs, swimming pools, and the beach for at least a week after LASIK eye surgery.
