Daniel McGehee, O.D., received his undergraduate degree from Loyola University Chicago. He then attended Illinois College of Optometry, receiving the Lawrence P. Feigenbaum Clinical Optometry Award, affectionately known as the honor of Clinician of the Year. He completed a Post-Doctorate Clinical Fellowship at the Illinois Eye Institute, in Chicago, after which he stayed on to teach, achieving the status of Assistant Professor of Optometry, before his departure to Arizona.
In 1992, Dr. McGehee joined the attending staff at Swagel Wootton Eye Center. In addition to comprehensive eye care and examinations, he provides glaucoma care, emergency eye care, pre and post-operative surgical care, and directs the clinic’s Optometric Student Education Program. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor for the Illinois College of Optometry (Chicago), as well as an Adjunct Clinical Preceptor for both the Arizona College of Optometry (Midwestern University, AZ Campus) and Southern College of Optometry (Memphis, TN). For over 30 years he has been a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) with twelve years as Director of Continuing Education for the AZOA, while serving on its Board of Directors. In 2014, he was awarded “Best Eye Doctor” by the East Valley Tribune.
Dr. McGehee was a collegiate NCAA (D-1) track and cross-country runner, is a two-time competitor/finisher in the Hawaii Ironman World Triathlon Championships, a four-time holder of the UMCA World 100-mile Time Trial Record (cycling), and a four-person team record holder in the Race Across America. He is an avid cyclist and current coach of the Brophy College Prep Mountain Bike Team (Phoenix, AZ).
He and his lovely wife Mary, also an Optometrist in Mesa, have three awesome, as well as full-grown, children and enjoy skiing, hiking, and cycling together.
