Renée C. Hanson, OD is an Arizona native, growing up in Gilbert. She received her BS in Molecular Biology from the University of Arizona in Tucson. She attended optometry school at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, and then went on to complete a residency in pediatric optometry and primary care at the University of California at Berkeley. She joined a highly respected ophthalmology group in Berkeley in 2005 and spent 15 years in practice there, developing her skills in cataract management, complex cornea cases, contact lenses and primary care. During her time there, Dr. Hanson developed an interest in specialty contact lenses such as sclerals, multifocals, and hybrids as well as working closely along side the corneal specialist in the practice. She manages keratoconus, corneal transplant cases, and took a particular interest in pediatric ocular trauma cases.
In 2018, Dr. Hanson made the difficult decision to leave the Bay Area and her long time practice in order to return home to Arizona. She joined the Swagel Wootton family in 2019. She’s committed to providing excellent care in all aspects of optometry. She’s passionate about her commitment to always furthering her knowledge and skills in her field.
