Life is an adventure full of moments meant to be seen. The experts at Swagel Wootton Eye Institute are here and ready to help you see clearly with confidence — to truly focus on the moments that matter.
Have you noticed you’re no longer able to focus on objects up close? Are you looking for a life free from corrective lenses, but you’re not a candidate for LASIK? Not to worry! You have more options to see clearly with refractive lens exchange (RLE).
RLE is essentially exactly as it sounds: An expert Swagel Wootton Eye Institute surgeon simply replaces your natural lens with an artificial one to correct refractive errors. The end goal is for patients to free themselves of glasses and contacts — a goal that’s achieved for most patients with our advanced technology lenses. And, with RLE, you never have to worry about cataracts in the future!
If you’re ready to take control of your vision, our world-class doctors are ready to help.
During RLE, the natural lens is removed from the eye and replaced with an acrylic, silicone, or plastic artificial lens (called an intraocular lens, or IOL). The trusted surgeons at Swagel Wootton Eye Institute use state-of-the-art laser technology to ensure patients experience minimal discomfort and the highest-quality, most customized results. Our computer-assisted instrument allows us to make highly precise cuts; then, an intraoperative wavefront aberrometer is used to fine-tune the results once the lens is replaced. The procedure typically takes no longer than 20 minutes, and most patients require only a short recovery period.
At Swagel Wootton Eye Institute, we’re proud to offer the latest innovations in RLE and advanced IOLs, including various premium multifocal IOLs that allow you to see at different distances without relying on glasses. Our experienced team will help you understand each option and choose the best lens for your vision goals, lifestyle, and budget during your free consultation.
RLE can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, and it’s particularly helpful in resolving early onset cataracts. The surgery isn’t right for everyone, but it may be an option for people with dry eye syndrome, thin corneas, or presbyopia (gradual loss of your eyes’ ability to focus on nearby objects). If you’re not a candidate for RLE, we can help you explore other vision correction options that may be better suited for you and your needs.
